A Tribute to St. Thomas More- A Lawyer’s Prayer
Posted by CalvilloLaw on July 14, 2011
Give me the grace, good Lord,
To set the world at naught;
To set my mind fast upon Thee and not to hang upon men’s mouths.
To be content to be solitary.
Not to long for worldly company but utterly to cast off the world and rid my mind of the business thereof.
St. Thomas More
As I launch this CalvilloLaw Blog, I begin with this prayer inspired by St. Thomas More. My parents purchased for me a frame that contains this prayer and I have kept it as part of my office furnishings since they presented it to me many years ago.
Although I have not offered this prayer for guidance throughout all of my career, I have found in recent years that I have relied upon this special lawyer’s prayer for guidance as I encounter difficult situations and collegues. It is thus fitting that I offer this same Lawyer’s Prayer to begin this next phase of my career. I thus pray for God’s guidance in all that I do, as a lawyer and as a humble servant of God.
I thus submit myself as a dutiful and conscientious servant of the profession but I remain “God’s first.”
Totus Tuus…
